چکیده

Landform, drainage pattern, slope, soil, vegetation and land use/land cover, all of which control surface runoff and peak flow, can be evaluated and mapped reliably and reasonably through Landsat Thematic Mapper (TM) false colour composites of the post-monsoon season. Runoff curve numbers (CAO determined from those data predicted the runoff depth and peak flow with a coefficient of determination of 0.970 and 0.863 respectively; thereby indicating that, in terms of accuracy, speed and cost, the Landsat TM data are of great significance for estimating surface runoff via the SCS model in the arid environment of northwest India.

Estimation of Runoff using Modified SCS Models

In recent decades, due to the importance of watershed management programs and the need for adequate information and correct estimation of rainfall and runoff, many conceptual models have been proposed. These models have parameters that must be estimated according to observational data. However, finding the optimal values for the parameters of simulation models has always faced uncertainty. One ...

The effects of watershed management practices on runoff production using SCS model in Anbaranchay watershed

Watershed management has different effects on the amount of runoff and sediment and alteration ofhydrological features in a watershed. In this study, the effects of watershed management on runoff was investigated in the Anbaranchaywatershed. For this purpose, the topography data in format of a digital elevation model, land use, soil hydrological groups and watershed managemetrigeon, and also usi...

Modeling urban growth effects on surface runoff with the integration of remote sensing and GIS.

A methodology is developed to relate urban growth studies to distributed hydrological modeling using an integrated approach of remote sensing and GIS. This linkage is possible because both studies share land-use and land-cover data. Landsat Thematic Mapper data are utilized to detect urban land-cover changes. GIS analyses are then conducted to examine the changing spatial patterns of urban grow...

Surface runoff estimation in an upper watershed using geo-spatial based soil conservation service-curve number method

Runoff assessment and estimation is crucial for watershed management as it provides information that is needed to expedite the course of watershed planning and development. The most commonly used model due to its simplicity and versatility in runoff estimation is the soil conservation service curve number developed by the United States Department of Agriculture. The study estimates the surface ...

Species and Canopy Cover Map Development Using Landsat Enhanced Thematic Mapper Imagery for Grand Canyon National Park

Overstory vegetation maps of species and canopy cover were developed from Landsat 7 Thematic Enhanced Thematic Mapper satellite imagery. Ecosystem Monitoring plot data, collected during the 1997-2001 field seasons, were used as training sites for the image classification. Sixty-two species classes and four canopy cover classes were mapped. The maps will be used to support a Joint Fire Science P...
